DALLAS, JULY 14, 2011: The DALLAS Film Society has announced that submissions for the 6th annual DALLAS International Film Festival will open on July 18, 2011. The DALLAS International Film Festival is scheduled for April 12 – 22, 2012.

In its five year history, the festival has established itself as one of the premiere film festivals in North America. Renowned for honoring filmmakers with cash prizes and opportunities, filmmakers and industry professionals have highlighted DALLAS IFF as being ‘one to watch’. To date, the festival has received over 7000 submissions, screened 981 films from 49 countries, hosted 934 filmmakers and featured 57 world premieres and 17 U.S premieres.

“Since the festival’s inception, we have been incredibly fortunate to award $400,000 to filmmakers,” said DALLAS IFF Artistic Director, James Faust. “Being able to recognize a filmmaker’s achievement in enhancing the creative community is a dream for all of us who are a part of this festival. I encourage any filmmaker who is interested in screening their film in great venues in front of some of the most intelligent and receptive audiences to submit to us. We have discovered incredible talent through this festival and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2012.”

At DALLAS IFF 2011, the introduction of the Embrey Foundation’s $10,000 Silver Heart Award brought a new focus on the aspect of social change into the world of filmmaking. The award was presented to the film most dedicated to fighting injustices and creating social change for the improvement of humanity. Tim Skousen’s ZERO PERCENT was the first recipient of this prize. The Embrey Foundation was so inspired by ZERO PERCENT that they immediately began serious discussions on how to create a similar college degree program between a university and a prison in North Texas.

“The film ZERO PERCENT had a profound effect on the Embrey Foundation, not just as judges for the Silver Heart Award but also in the area of awareness that leads to activism,” said Lauren Embrey, President and CEO of the Embrey Foundation. “This is a testament to the power of storytelling through documentary film making. Not only were we inspired by the film, we were motivated to take action.”

Early deadline for submissions is October 28, 2011. Regular deadline is December 2, 2011. Late deadline is December 16, 2011. A link for film submissions and information on submissions is available at Other questions may be sent to
