Summer Film Camp

Each year, The Dallas Film Society holds a weeklong Film Camp for kids ages 14-18. Industry professionals teach kids tricks of the trade and give pointers about different aspects of the film industry. Campers experience the world of film! In 2011 Summer Film Camp was held at The Studios at Las Colinas (Dallas Communications Complex, 6301 Riverside Drive, RM 2A, Irving, Texas 75039) from July 11- July 15. Campers attended the following sessions:

Storyboard & Animation
Develop your own story! Use the world of Animation to inspire you. Then work with your fellow classmates to bring your story to life. Professional animators will help you through the initial steps in creating your first animated film.

Costume Magic and Set Design
Think of some of your favorite films. What makes you love them? Was it the costumes and the amazing set designs? This workshop will utilize of Oscar Award-winning films as motivation for the creation of costumes and sets to continue on your movie making-journey.

Sound Design
Music lets you know when opening a door is a bad idea, when two people meeting in a coffee shop are destined for love or if someone falling down is funny! Microphones, headphones, Texas’ most revered sound stages and array of sound design experts will help you craft the appropriate score.

Cinematography & Lighting
Limited light, difficult angles… These are all issues that a Director of Photography faces when making sure that perfect moment is captured on film. Bring your best ideas and work with some of the city’s most talented and respected cinematographers and professional quality equipment to take the final production step in making your movie a reality.

Additionally students experienced:

• Aspects of editing software and cameras
• Unique experiences that cannot be attained in a regular classroom
• Film Production at one of the major sound stages in Dallas
• Basic techniques of filmmaking
