High School Roundtable
Dallas Film Society’s High School Roundtable Presented By Mercury One, Inc.
Education is one of the vital components of the Dallas Film Society’s mission and programming. Throughout the year, DFS hosts bi-monthly High School Roundtables where students are able to visit production and music facilities, live sets, and companies that are associated with film and video production. Students are able to interact with local filmmakers, editors, current college film students and marketing executives.
Places such as the Nasher Sculpture Center, Reel FX Entertainment and the set of Dallas are all production and exhibition centers that have hosted this event. On the production set of Dallas, many students got to ask questions and interact with different people in the film industry, including well-known producer Ken Topolsky.
At the Dallas International Film Festival, students are able to submit the shorts they have produced during 2014 and early 2015 school year. The High School Shorts Showcase is highly anticipated every year! In addition to Q&A sessions and panels at the Dallas International Film Festival’s venues, the Festival holds an annual series of master classes and students are able to attend various workshops at High School Day in the Dallas Arts District.
The Dallas Film Society hosts the Dallas International Film Festival every year, and students who came to the “How to Fest” at the Nasher Sculpture Center received insight into all the upcoming films featured at the the film festival before they were even presented. High School Roundtable is a great, laid-back, fun event that gives students a chance to really explore the world behind the camera and to see for themselves the magic of moviemaking.
“Cinema is a matter of what’s in the frame and what’s out.” – Martin Scorsese
