2017 DFS Summer Film Camp
This Summer, the Dallas Film Society is excited to offer two three-day film workshops for students ages 14-18.
Professors from the Southern Methodist University Division of Film and Media Arts will present highly focused information on film topics and tricks of the trade to small classes. It’s a unique, hands-on learning opportunity that goes well beyond standard classroom work. And it’s summer camp, so you know it’s fun!
NOW ACCEPTING SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATIONS THROUGH JUNE 30
Wednesday, July 12—Friday, July 14
This three-day workshop introduces you to the techniques, language, and process of filmmaking. Learn the basics of filmmaking techniques, including camera angles, types of shots, basic lighting, sound recording, acting style, screenwriting, storyboarding, and directing. Begin to learn the foundations of film vocabulary and criticism, which includes industry jargon used on set. The three days will consist of many hands-on activities, including storyboarding, screenwriting, acting, writing reviews, and making a movie.
Monday, July 17—Wednesday, July 19
Take what you learned in Production 101 and apply it in a fast- paced production environment! Advanced Production will ask you to hone your fundamental film skills to produce a full- blown short! You will work in groups to write, storyboard, design, shoot and edit a short film. Discover what it’s like to work with a production crew to take your story from script to screen. This session focuses on the process of filmmaking and explores different approaches to finding success on a set. This session will move quickly, so come with ideas and a positive attitude!
