11:30 a.m. THE DOORS
R, 1991, 140 min.
Director: Oliver Stone
Screenwriter: Oliver Stone and Randall Jahnsson
Cast: Val Kilmer, Meg Ryan, Kyle MacLachlan

Val Kilmer plays rock ‘n’ roll poet Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s tribute to one of the most unique and influential bands of the 1960s. Kilmer so closely echoes Morrison in both looks and singing style that you feel that you might actually be watching the “Lizard King” himself. The role takes Kilmer from the musician’s days as a Los Angeles Film student through his rise to rock stardom and ends with his likely suicide in Paris in 1971. Stone brings Morrison’s bandmates Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger along for the ride and guides us on a trip through the sex, drugs, poetry and music that fueled a turbulent era.

PG-13, 1995, 121 min.
Director: Joel Schumacher
Screenwriter: Lee Batchler, Janet Scott Batchler and Akiva Goldsman
Cast: Val Kilmer, Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carrey, Nicole Kidman

Val Kilmer dons the Dark Knight’s cape in director Joel Schumacher’s take on the often troubled superhero. Batman battles Two-Face and The Riddler with his new sidekick, a former circus acrobat now known as Robin the Boy Wonder. Kilmer’s character fights his foes, but also fights himself, struggling with his own inner demons and his need for vengeance. The film, part of producer Tim Burton’s trilogy, takes on some of the campy elements of the TV series, but Kilmer’s Batman never loses his grim determination to fight injustice.
