Free Screening of THE KILLING
Stanley Kubrick’s third feature, THE KILLING, is next up in Chris Vognar’s Screening Room presented by Stella Artois. We’ll screen it at 7:30 p.m. on March 8 at the Angelika in Dallas.
Kubrick’s 1956 film tells the story of Johnny Clay (Sterling Hayden) a longtime criminal who plans a final heist at a horse track. He assembles a talented crew to pull off the job. However, one Clay’s associates spills the beans to his vengeful wife and she and her lover form different ideas about who should have the money.
THE KILLING was made when Kubrick was only 28, and is often called his first mature film. He shot the horse racing scenes at Bay Meadows Racecourse in San Mateo, Calif. and directed parts of the film in a documentary style that recalls his time as a director of the old “March of Time” newsreels.
After the screening, Dallas Morning News film critic Chris Vognar will give us his take on the film and answers your questions.
