Free screening of IN A LONELY PLACE
Have you investigated our film noir series yet?
Join us on Dec. 8 at the Angelika in Dallas for a film with one of Humphrey Bogart’s finest performances, IN A LONELY PLACE. It’s part of Chris Vognar’s Screening Room presented by Stella Artois, our monthly look at this quintessentially American genre with The Dallas Morning News’ film critic.
(UPDATE: Reservations for the screening are closed. Join us in January for the next screening in the series.)
Bogart plays Dixon Steele, a Hollywood screenwriter with a dangerous edge who is suspected of murder. His neighbor, a struggling actress named Laurel Gray, (Gloria Grahme), is drawn to him even though she fears his unpredictable and violent behavior. Mistaken identity, fame, desire and brutality build threatening clouds of suspense as director Nicholas Ray’s film thunders to its fantastic conclusion.
After the screening, Chris will give us the backstory on the film’s production and insight on LONELY PLACE’s cultural touchstones and significance among other films in the film noir genre.
The screenings are free, but an RSVP is required. We’ll see you at the screening.
